Overview

Prostate cancer often presents with few or no symptoms in its early stages, leading to late diagnosis when the cancer has already advanced. This delay in diagnosis can result in poorer treatment outcomes and reduced survival rates.It also often involves multiple healthcare providers and specialties, including urologists, oncologists, radiation oncologists, and primary care physicians. Lack of coordination and communication among these providers can lead to fragmented care and suboptimal outcomes for patients.

What makes cancer unique from other diseases is that it’s not a transactional disease but an engaged patient journey wherein many frequent follow-ups are included and carries a huge patient referral value and a stronger matrix to know about the quality of services. This creates complexity in the cancer care delivery system, which in turn creates a burden on patients, their caregivers and ultimately on the society.

Currently healthcare system doesn’t work like well-oiled machines, delivering care smoothly across the continuum. It is extremely fragmented because it’s structured around the way providers offer services—each focused on one small part of the procedure—instead of the way patients receive care. No one has an overarching view of the entire process, with an eye toward improving customer service, quality, or costs.

The project develops a deep understanding of the bottlenecks and information blind spots in urban tertiary hospitals for prostate cancer patients during their cancer journey and through service design innovation, integrates their care journey to efficiently meet their needs through a one stop clinic.
